In 2016, I moved to a new city after getting married—no job in hand, having left one that demanded too much travel. But I brought with me something priceless: a tradition of crafting handmade birthday gifts for my niece. That year, with time to spare and creativity to burn, I transformed everyday household scraps into a DIY miniature dollhouse. Bottle caps became stools, boxes turned into beds, and paper cups made adorable side tables. My mother joined in, dressing up a simple shelf with curtains and wallpaper. The dollhouse didn’t last forever, but it marked my first big leap into the world of handmade crafts.
What followed was a flurry of experiments—paper quilling, clay magnets, and recycled newspaper crafts. Then full-time work took over. But creativity, as it does, found its way back.
In early 2017, with another birthday approaching, I stumbled upon sensory books during a late-night Facebook scroll. Instantly, I was hooked. Inspired, I sketched out my first quiet book—a dollhouse-themed felt story that mirrored my niece’s everyday routine, from breakfast to bedtime. I had no experience with felt sewing or toy design. I mixed felt, foam, and terribly mismatched ribbons. But the result? A one-of-a-kind, interactive Montessori-inspired quiet book that my niece absolutely adored.
The praise from friends and family poured in. Encouraged, I started making more books—some of which even made their way into speech therapy centers. By day, I was an Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathologist. By night, I was cutting felt, hand-stitching tiny doors and windows, and learning everything I could about sensory play and learning through play.
Then came my second quiet book. A YouTube video I shared under the name Artsy Audiologist unexpectedly went viral, bringing joy, tutorial requests, and my first earnings. But soon after, YouTube’s rules changed, and without regular content, I couldn’t meet the new thresholds. Still, the messages, the support, and the love stayed with me.
Life changed again—motherhood arrived. For a while, I thought my creative chapter had closed. But it was only the beginning. I designed something special for my son, and it deeply resonated with other parents. Orders began flowing in from across India for custom felt toys, interactive quiet books, and sensory kits for toddlers.
That moment changed everything.
I soon outgrew the name Artsy Audiologist—too many shifts, too many new beginnings. And so, ASLP Creates was born. A name that reflects both my profession and my passion for creating developmentally enriching sensory toys, quiet books, and DIY play activities that blend heart, hands, and everyday magic.
